How to Remove After-party Stains from Cotton Dresses

The party is over, everyone has said their goodbyes, and you’re back home. You notice that you have a nasty stain on your favorite cotton dress. Whatever stain it might be, it is better to get it off your dress as soon as possible, or it may end up becoming a permanent mark. This article will guide you to get rid of stains from your favorite cotton dress. Here’s how you can try getting those stains off your dress:

Removing Liquor Stains

One of the most common kind of liquor stains people complain of are due to red wine. The problem with red wine is that the more you allow the stain to settle and dry on your cotton dress, the harder it is going to be to get it off. It may even permanently dye your favorite cotton dress if allowed to dry completely. Therefore, the first step is to keep the stain moist. One of the ways to remove the stain is applying salt over the stain, letting it dry and then washing with detergent. Another way to get rid of red wine stain is using club soda as the stain removal agent. You can also use white vinegar on the stain to get rid of it. If you have beer stains on your dress, you can pre-treat the stain with rubbing alcohol before subjecting it to regular detergent washing.

Removing Food Stains

Party or no party, food stains are always something to worry about, especially if they are on your favorite cotton dress. Most food stains such as those from ketchup or mustard can be easily removed by running cold water over the stain and dabbing or rubbing with a sponge soaked in vinegar. This will make the stain easier to remove using a detergent. White vinegar can also be used to clean tea and coffee stains, or at least make these stains easy to remove through regular washing.

Removing Oil Stains

Removing oil and greasy stains may be a little trickier than removing most other stains. This is because oil and grease are repelled by water, making water an ineffective cleaning agent. However, there are other ways to clean these stains, or at least to make them less intense. To remove the fatty oils from your cotton dress, apply flour or talcum powder on the stain and allow it to sit for about half an hour. You can then dust it off and clean with a detergent to completely get rid of the oily stain.

Now you know how to deal with the basic after party stains. You will probably get the entire stain off your clothes with these methods, or at least make the stain easy to remove using regular methods. However, it is not always advisable to use these methods without thorough consideration, as it may damage the fabric at the stained spot, ruining its texture and overall look.
